HEPA filter bagOptimal IAQ Without Sacrificing HVAC System's Energy Efficiency, Air Flow Or Pressure Loss

HVAC systems come from the factory with common, throw-away filters only, and for many good reasons. It is well known that clogged HEPA filters can reduce the volume of air produced by your HVAC system and; restricted air flow can cause a myriad of indoor air quality problems.

cps filter membraneMYCELX OilArrest™ CPS Membranes: The Future In Practical IAQ Solutions

Unlike HEPA filters, Curable Polymeric Surfactant (CPS) membranes protect human health, the environment & sensitive equipment from hydrocarbon exposure in a wide range of applications. That's because of their ability to intercept all airborne aqueous insoluble, semi-soluble and mechanically aerosoled compounds with a single-pass efficiency of 99+ percent without ever tampering with your HVAC system's capabilities.

MYCELX OilArrest™ CPS infused membranes are extremely effective, energy efficient and easy to operate and maintain. CPS infused substrates can be used in a variety of settings including residential, commercial and compressed air delivery systems to remove ultra fine dust particles, fungal spores and harmful oil mists, such as:

  • Fats, oils and grease
  • Aromatics (Benzene, toulene, ethylbenzene & xylene)
  • Polyaromatics (PAH)
  • Aliphatic fuels, Solvents and Cycloalkanes
  • Chlorinated organics, Pesticides
  • Persistent organic pollutants (POP's), and
  • ACE inhibitors (insecticides, LSD and nerve agents).

How CPS Works

CPS infused subtrates instantly bond and coagulate organic compounds of various phases (liquids and vapors), consolidating them into a dense viscoelastic semi-solid. The CPS-organic coagulate is extremely oleophilic (oil-loving), hydrophobolic (water-hating) and bio-static (resistant to biological reproduction). As air shears through a MYCELX OilArrest™ CPS filter, coagulates become more compact, allowing instantaneous removal of airborne hydrocarbons and particulate matter without clogging or desorption. Essentially, the opposite of swelling occurs within the coagulate and the filter media.

This unique property allows CPS filters to capture the full range of hydrocarbons without impeding air flow or re-releasing contaminants at high flow rates. These properties are well documented at the archives of EPOnline (type "CPS" for results)

MYCELX CPS technology has already been proven in the water treatment industry. In fact, MYCELX HRM™ cartridges are extremely popular for groundwater, commercial and recreational bilge water polishing, removal of tramp oils from machining fluids, OWS applications, and numerous industrial wastewater cleanup processes. The OilArrest line of mountable oil mist air filters brings this same proven technology to the air treatment industry.

MYCELX OilArrest™ technology has become increasingly popular in a wide assortment of industries, and especially in commercial and industrial HVAC air filtration. Our featured 43"x28.5" (8.5 square ft.) CPS sheet can be easily trimmed to fit over various regular air filters to enhance organic vapor mists and fungal spores entrapment while triple or more the life span of the base air filters.

More About HEPA Air Filtration

Air filtration is a function of a dust particle or airborne particulate impacting on a surface to allow capture. Technically, this is called interception, although other terms such as impaction and diffusion are also used when discussing how HEPA filters work. A lot of information relating to HEPA air filtration or HEPA air purification has been circulating through the market place. Some of this information is fact and a lot is fiction. Pressure drop is the amount of resistance, as measured in inches of water, that takes to push air through a HEPA filter. Bottom line: Can you install a HEPA filter in your HVAC system without impacting its capabilities?

Keep in mind, that additional resistance across a HEPA filter will decrease the CFM (cubic feet per minute = volume of air) through your heating/cooling system. As more dust or airborne particles accumulate on the filter surface, the efficiency or effectiveness of the filter actually increases, and so does the resistance.
